Owin Brunner is sophomore wrestler at Faith Christian Academy. In the middle of his season this year, Owin re-injured the same hip that kept him out of last years postseason as a freshman. What started out as frustration towards another season ending injury, quickly turned to caution as Owin continued to experience unusual sharp pains and discomfort. Headaches, sleep deprivation and unusual fatigue lead to further testing and questioning. Caution turned to panic when the blood results revealed Owin was in a fight with Leukemia.
This past Sunday Owin was admitted to CHOP where doctors confirmed he has T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. This week saw him undergo a lengthy surgery to test different sites on his body while also installing a port in his chest where he will accept his chemo treatments over the next 8 months. From Tuesday to Wednesday Owin received his first three rounds of chemo. Owin's contagious smile and obvious love for life haven't diminished through the difficulty this week has brought. He has an unrelenting focus on trusting God and gleaning joy from his family and all the people he has coming to spend time with him.
As a wrestling family, we are seeing the strain on the Brunner family from an emotional, physical and financial standpoint. It is our desire to start this fundraiser so people can impact the Brunner family financially and also check on updates relative to Owin's progress. Owin's parents are both teachers and will miss significant time while they focus solely on taking care of Owin and their daughter, Lexi during this unfathomable time. All funds received would simply be given to the Brunner family to use as they need at this time.
