What if you woke up in a sitcom about your life?
Help me bring my most ambitious film to life. GERALD is here to answer that.
I’m Owen Keller, a senior BFA film student at Ohio University, directing my FINAL undergraduate project. I’m raising $5,000 to bring it to life.
This surreal film follows Gerald, who finds that his blissful life is actually a sitcom suburbia that he has constructed to avoid his real emotions. The film’s style relies on exposing and breaking the conventions of performance and set design alongside Gerald’s journey in confronting his darkest thoughts.
This is my most ambitious project to date. Where my other films have always had dabbles of surrealism and convention-breaking, GERALD displays my creative dreams at full blast with poppy color palettes, awkward humor, and a real set constructed by my amazing set team.
This film means so much to me because it is an amalgamation of my favorite concepts in film. From my love for convention-breakers like Kiarostami to my deep interest in existentialism and surrealism, this film allows me to connect my own awkward, anxious inner turmoils to the films that I’ve connected with most through film school.
