On October 4, 2015 Owen was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma (Eye Cancer), just three days after his second birthday. Owen has tumors in both of his eyes and is currently undergoing chemotherapy.Since Owen's diagnosis, he and his parents have been traveling to Philadelphia once a month to be seen by doctors at Wills Eye Hospital and get chemotherapy treatments at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). In addition to his trips to Philly, Owen has been going to Hershey Medical Center once a week for blood tests and more health screenings.
Just recently, Owen's doctors decided to step it up a notch and do chemo injections into the left eye (the worse of the two), followed by Intra-arterial chemotherapy - all in addition to his regular sysemic (full-body) chemo. These new treatments give him a decent shot at being able to see out of his right eye, keep the cancer from spreading, and saving his left eye. Owen and his family now travel to Philly weekly for chemo treatments and screening.
As much as this family hates to ask for help, Owen's condition has put a big strain on them. There is now a lot of travel, a lot of out-of-pocket cost and a lot of stress!
We want to accomplish three things with Owen's GoFundMe page:
1) Relieve some of the financial burden on the family;
2) Help Owen have the best shot at seeing again; and
3) Raise awareness about Retinoblastoma.
All money raised will help to pay for Owen's medical bills and the costs incurred from travel to and from Philladelphia for his life-saving and vision-saving treatments. Any additional funds will be donated to the Carlos G. Bianciotto Retinoblastoma Research Fund (http://www.etrf.org/cgb.html) to help find a cure.
Owen and his family are so grateful for whatever support they receive. Please donate if you can, but if you can't, know that you are helping us accomplish our goal of eye cancer awareness!
Eye cancer SUCKS. Please help Owen FIGHT!
