To whom it may concern,
To all of my fellow VSAC employees, and for those who do not already know that we have recently lost a fellow brother-in-arms, mentor, community member, and even some of us had the pleasure of calling a friend. Just recently in the week before last Owen David Williams passed away unexpectedly due to complications from COVID. As someone who worked with him personally, I can assure you that Owen was one of the smartest, most intelligent people whom I have had the pleasure of working with. Owen was a man of integrity and honor and was never shy in standing up for what he believed was right. He was the kind of person who took VSAC's mission to heart, and it was with the utmost seriousness, civility, and grace that he helped to ensure the security and continued confidence of our customers and school partners.
So what are we as fellow VSAC employees left to do to honor such a man? I'm thinking that it is only right and quite fitting that we create the scholarship in Owen's honor. The criterion of the scholarship has not been fully defined, but being he was one of the best programmers around, and in many ways, a total geek, and I mean that in the best of ways, that offering a scholarship geared to the students of Barre who are interested in astronomy, physics, programming, and the sciences in the general would most appropriate. I'm thinking that creating a scholarship in Owen's name would be a great first step in ensuring his continued legacy.
All the proceeds generated via this Go-Fund-Me Campaign will be given to Spaulding High School so that a scholarship can be created in Owen's name. We'll also see if VSAC will match the proceeds that we generate so we can increase the size of the scholarship. Any amount that you donate is truly appreciated. Please donate whatever you can, no matter how big or small, for every little bit, will go to ensuring the legacy of that is Owen Williams. May he always be remembered fondly, and may he never be forgotten.
May the man, the myth, the legend rest in peace.
God Bless,
