Help us support Owen’s recovery

Donation protected
A few weeks ago, our sweet cousin Owen Kenna suffered the unthinkable. At just 15 years old, he had a stroke. He was immediately airlifted to Westchester Medical Center, and our family waited hours for news.

Owen was placed into a medically induced coma the evening of May 26th. That night, he was diagnosed with AVM, or atrial-ventricular malformation. Most people who have AVM’s are born with them. Unfortunately, many are left undetected until a stroke or brain bleed occurs, resulting in devastating-sometimes even fatal-consequences. Owen was on a ventilator and in a coma at Maria Ferreri’s Children Hospital for over a week.

My uncle Mike and Owen’s mom, Cherise, took off work to stay in the hospital with Owen. Seconds felt like hours. Hours felt like a lifetime. After many tests and one failed attempt, the doctors finally succeeded in waking Owen up. Throughout these last few weeks, we have prayed to every single God out there for Owen’s recovery. Seeing those big, beautiful green eyes wide open again was nothing short of a miracle. Owen is currently building up his strength and is lucid, able to mumble words, and able to smile. At this point, he does not have much motor function on the right side of his body.

Unfortunately, great medical care comes with great cost. Both of Owen’s parents are taking off time from work to stay by his side. He’s just a kid and they do not want to leave him alone. Owen also has deficits from his stroke and will need a lot of rehab over an unknown period of time. He is currently at a rehabilitation center where he is involved in many different types of therapy.

We are looking for donations to help support Owen and his family during this trying time and in the future. There will be extensive medical costs involved as well as a long road of rehabilitation. Any amount would mean the world to our family. Owen is a tough kid. After all, he’s got that crazy Kenna blood in him. We will be keeping everyone up to date on his progress. Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers.
