Owen is shaving his Dreadlocks!
Donation protected
So I'm saying goodbye to the Dreads! 9 years in the making. It's been a really big part of my identity over that time. Funnily enough, this is actually the second time I've had dreadlocks. The first time I had them in late high school and the first couple of years of uni. I shaved them off for a charity fundraiser for a close friend's cause for brain injury treatment and research and raised nearly $15K! Three years later, I must have felt like I was missing a part of me, so I got the dreads back again. I love getting compliments and recognised for them, but now I'm feeling a fun self-challenge to disconnect my sense of identity from them, both literally and figuratively.
For this fundraising, my focus is on Education and the Environment. Two things I am super passionate about. I've been prototyping a board game that I'd love to put into production and send to schools as an intro understanding the world of power generation, economics, and specifically green energy. Exploring demand, resources, renewables, environment, and community considerations. It's almost like a Settlers of Catan meets a green-Monopoly. It is designed for all ages and abilities, but the drive to get it into educational scenarios excites me the most. I'd love your help bringing it to life.
I will also be donating the dreadlocks themselves to raise money for the Leukemia Foundation. Although if you would like to purchase one as a memento (maybe use it for some voodoo-doll incantations?), I'd happily let you chuck in $50 per dread for your own one to take home. Creepy? I won't judge.
