Bonnie (Mom) was diagnosed with non-hodgkin's lymphoma December 2017, and she ROCKED both chemo and radiation! (Around the same time we found out my dad has Lewy Body Dementia )!Unfortunately the chemo she had, caused MDS (myelodysplastic syndrome). This is a blood cancer similar to Leukemia. She had to have more chemo to get her in remission for a Bone Marrow Transplant. We are now ready for the stem cell transplant! (Stem cells are to be donated by her amazing daughter, Brooke Mendenhall). Even with all of this crazy COVID-19 stuff going on, her transplant team chose to move forward with the procedure. There have been MANY trips over there over the past couple of weeks to make sure everyone involved is ready. On the 23rd of April mom will have to pack up and move over to Rochester for some pretty aggressive chemo prior to her outpatient transplant on April 29th (Also known as day 0 of possibly 100 that she will have to remain in Rochester). During this time we have a member of our church who has graciously offered to be with dad . Mom will be staying in the Gift of Life transplant house during the initial chemo treatments and for the following 2 weeks, as they have a blood collection on site and she will have daily doctor appts. She will then be able to stay with a very dear friend who lives just north of Rochester. During this time she will have to have a constant companion(not always the same person). I've set up this go fund me page not only to help her and Dad out with the living expenses during this unknown time (Gift of Life transplant house is $30/night), but to just put it out there, if anyone wants to spend a couple hours on any day with mom in Rochester, it would be much appreciated. She will need to get to appts at the Clinic every day for the first month (first 2 weeks will be covered by her amazing childhood friend while at the transplant house), then at least 2 times a week for the second month. If anyone is willing, please contact me as I (Lindsey) will be establishing a schedule and filling in on as many days as I am able. In all honesty the biggest contribution that we ask for is prayer during this time. Prayer that mom will react well to the transplant, and her body will accept the cells with ease. Prayer that dad will be okay with mom not being around and not too terribly confused about this new (albeit temporary) normal. And prayer that all involved in care, stay healthy and able to help. Thanks in advance for any help on all requests! ❤
