Over the past three years, my heart has been broken repeatedly. I have lost three of my precious senior cats. (And 3 grandparents ) during the same time.

To give them the absolute best quality of life in their final years, I poured the entirety of my savings into their veterinary care. I do not regret a single penny, but it has left me completely depleted—financially and emotionally.

Now, my last living senior cat, Flan, is fighting Stage 3 Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).Flan is my sweet boy and my whole world.

he’s the most gentle and kind cat. After my first cat passed away Flan came to my door and started sleeping on my couch. I asked the neighbors if they knew who the cat belonged to and they went on to tell me how they had him since he was a kitten and bottle fed him but when he got old enough they made him stay an outside cat. He clearly didn’t want that and the neighbor said if he’s happy with you keep him. I couldn’t believe anyone would give up this precious angel. So he became my boy. He was friendly to the other cats and cuddly with me. Has a great demeanor and behavior and he deserves all the chicken the world has to offer :) he also has a little brother who’s 3 and adores him they sleep together and he really needs him in his life as long as possible.

To keep his condition stable and keep him out of pain, he requires a strict, intense medical regimen. He needs twice-daily thyroid medication (Felimazole), monthly subcutaneous IV fluids with lines and syringes, strict prescription kidney food, and daily kidney, joint, and anxiety supplements to manage his aches.

Because we are fighting this disease every single day, our costs have spiraled out of control:

Current Past-Due Vet Balance: $2,000 (Needs to be paid immediately so he can continue seeing his doctor).

And then bloodwork every 3-4 months is $200

Monthly Medical & Food Expenses: $300+ every month.

To make matters worse, I am a hairdresser and recently suffered a severe back muscle strain and painful spasms. I have been forced out of work for over a week. Without my income, our household has hit a breaking point.

We have already experienced our water and electricity being shut off, digging us into a deeper hole with late and reconnection fees.

I am terrified that we are becoming incapable of paying for Flan’s life-sustaining treatments.The guilt and pain of losing Flan early simply because I cannot afford his care right now would be unbearable. I’ve already had to cut out the Rx food and find the best lower cost alternative for his needs. That’s really hard too. I don’t want to have to cut out any more things he truly needs or neglect a necessary vet visit.
