The world has walls we don’t want

Overtour  is a cultural initiative that aims at giving people the mean to see the world again in times when traveling is not easy at all.

There is a huge wealth of history, art, culture and traditions in so many cities around the world and we think it's a shame we can't access them. Right now it seems to be all about coronavirus, but it was like that way before. Think about it: everyday we have work to do, budgets to meet, visas to require, planes to catch, etc. We live in a world made of walls, some of which are unexpected (say, pandemies) while others are systemic (few of us can fly here and there every week, let's be honest). Since we are a young team of wanderlusters, we simply cannot be okay with it. And that’s why we came up with one idea to overcome such barriers and keep the world open for all.


How can we open the world again?

The idea is called Overtour and it's our project. It's an online event composed of numerous virtual tours in live streaming from various cities and museums around the world. 

A spontaneous collective artistic initiative in which everyone can participate. Imagine: together, we can hop from city to city, from country to country - from continent to continent even! - in any ordinary weeknight or boring locked-down Sunday afternoon. Together, we can visit the Colosseum from the couch, Shibuya from the kitchen, Las Ramblas from the office (you don’t know where these places are? Come join us  and find out!) . Take your friends with us, your grandma... why not? Or travel solo through the world! Each live virtual tour is the opening of a window on a new corner of the world, it's just our choice. The tours present different formats: we have touristic professionals leading us through city tours, we have locals that simply walk us through the streets and hidden gems of their towns, directors and guides of museums that tell us about the incredible treasures they preserve. From home, we will be able to discover the soul of faraway cities, the wonders of long-dreamt museums, and every other place we would love to go to, if conditions would allow us. Isn't it magic?


A common journey, free for all

Rather than magic, Overtour is a simple and fresh initiative. But bold and, most importantly, free for everyone. It’s our intention to keep each tour free. This means you can enjoy any virtual tours without paying a ticket of any kind. The live streams of the entire event will take place everyday on Twitch , which is a platform that does not require registration. 

(If you don't know Twitch: it's a kind of online TV, like YouTube but with live videos instead of recorded ones. Everyone can access it for free, from the web, from mobile, even on Smart TVs – check it out, it’s kinda cool!)


Join our vision and help us open the world again

We are doing everything we can to bring this project to life. We are building the communication campaign, reaching out to hundreds of people around the world, contacting museums and other artistic and historical institutions to bring them on board. We will take care of the organization and the technical feasibility of the event. All of this costs us passion – that we have in tons -, efforts – that we don’t fear to commit to -, and money – that we have short… and this is why we are here on GoFundMe to ask for your support.

If you, like us, believe in a world without walls...ven better, if you want a world without walls, help us break them down. Any small contribution will allow us to pursue the aim of Overtour. With your kind support you will contribute in:

- Reaching more and more people and allow them to be part of Overtour. Our “online travel” concept needs people to guide us through different places. We are pushing human network as much as we can to open windows everywhere in the world. We use web and social communication channels to extend our message even further, also leveraging on digital ads. The more people we involve, the more places we will visit!
- Promoting the inititative to public institutions (cities, regions, foundations) as well as private actors (especially from the tourism sector) and earn their endorsement. This would mean for Overtour to ensure high participation to the project and support to make the initiative bigger and bigger. Again, the more people involved, the more corners of the world we can open!
- Ensuring the technical feasibility of the event. Running Twitch streams is energy and hardware consuming, and our modest computer will work as hubs to bridge our guides cameras with your devices. Not only that: we need directors and moderators. We do this by ourselves but we may need to involve whomever is necessary to grant a constant access to the world wonders.
