Overdue Lunch Accounts in Verona

Chris and I were looking for a tangible way to help people in need in our local community when I learned of an anonymous Verona resident who donated money to pay off overdue lunch accounts at one of our local elementary schools. Soon, I was hearing about other similar stories around the nation - http://www.cbsnews.com/news/donors-unite-nationwide-to-pay-off-kids-school-lunch-debt/), so I decided to learn more about the lunch account situation in our area. I spoke with the Child Nutrition Services office for the Verona Area School District, and we came up with a plan to help.
We don't have enough money to do this on our own, but we have a lot of awesome friends and family, and if we all chip in a little, we can make a really big difference!
So here is what we are going to do with the money raised:
Aside from the GoFundMe processing fees, absolutely all of the money raised in this campaign will go to help pay off overdue student lunch accounts.
They will be paid off in order of greatest need, which is roughly in the following order:
In some cases, it can take a while to be approved for free or reduced lunch, and once you are approved, it is not retroactive, so there are many families that suffer from this gap in coverage. The accounts of students qualifying for free lunch will be paid off first, followed by students qualifying for reduced lunch.
After that, regular overdue lunch accounts will be paid off, and if there is anything left over after that, we will begin paying off the school lunch accounts in the surrounding area school districts, like Mt. Horeb, Fitchburg, and Madison.
With the school year ending soon, we need to wrap up this fundraiser by May 26th, 2017.
