Overcoming Tragedy: A New Beginning

I was born in 1982 three months prematurely at a weight of 1.8 lbs and was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy (CP), a condition that affects the way I walk. Despite this, in 2010, I realized my dream of becoming a math teacher. In June of 2012, my world was shattered when I felt a jolt of painful electric shock run across the left side of my body, and was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), a severe neurological disease that affects the brain and spinal cord through the development of lesions caused by flareups. These are generally permanent. For me, the disease affected me through severe numbness that was ok at first, but has gotten progressively worse over the last 13 years. Despite this, I continued teaching. On April 8, 2023, my life once again took a drastic hit when my father lost his battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis and passed away. He was by all accounts my best friend. Due to my father's death and the progression of my MS symptoms and disease, I had to take a lot of time off from work. On April 24, 2024, I took another hit and was in a severe car accident where the airbag struck my chest directly, which required extensive rehab. I had to miss more time from work. My life took a disastrous turn for the worse on May 1, 2024, when I was let go from my job. The culmination of all these events left me in state of mind where I thought things were completely hopeless. On May 1, 2025, I attempted to take my own life by overdosing on prescription drugs. I was in a coma for several days with systemic failure of all major organs. Miraculously, I woke up from the coma. I had to learn how to walk and eat independently all over again. I'm getting the help I need and using this time to reflect. The purpose of this fund raiser is to start fresh and put the past completely behind me.
