Why Supporting This Film Is an Investment?

Hi, I’m Giovanna Batista, and I’ve been telling stories since I was nine years old, back in Brazil.

When I was 17, I made a short film with no equipment, no crew, and a total budget of $60. I didn’t have money, industry access, or connections. I had discipline, intuition, and something I needed to say.

That film became a finalist at the international ConnectHER Film Festival.

I crowdfunded my own way to Texas, so I could attend the ceremony in person, and became the first Brazilian ever to win the festival. That same work later earned me a full-ride scholarship to study film at York University in Canada, where I moved alone across the world to build my future as a filmmaker.

This isn’t a dream I’m pitching.

It’s a path I’ve already proven I can walk.

If I was able to do all of that with $60, imagine what I can do with more support.

Why I’m Making Over Easy

Over Easy is a dark comedy about the danger of curiosity. It lives in duality with moments of emotional reflection, interrupted by moments that are sharp, ironic, and funny.

This film matters to me creatively, but it also matters structurally.

Over Easy is my second-year conclusion film at York University, the same institution where I received my full-ride scholarship. This project represents my voice, my growth, and my readiness to move forward.

At York, students choose different paths in their third year: including documentary, alternative filmmaking, and fiction.

This film will be used as part of my application to the third-year fiction stream. I’ve always known I want to be a fiction director and this is the film that allows me to formally step into that space.

It’s not just a short film. It’s a decision point in my career.

My crew and I are already personally investing in this film. We are covering part of the costs ourselves because we believe deeply in the project and are committed to seeing it through. The funds raised here are to help us complete the remaining portion of the budget and bring the film to the screen at a professional level.
