My name is Zoen Palmer O'Reilly, and I am currently a sophmore at Leon High School, where I am excelling in all of my classes with As and Bs. Though things may seem grand now, school has never been that easy for me. In fact when I started out in school I struggled with dyslexia and failed in all of my classes. Fortunately I am a very ambitious person and worked strenuously to get to where I am now. Overcoming my learning disability has taught me the value of hard work and that you can achieve your goals if you put 100% of yourself into it.
One of my goals is to succesfully lead people in the United States military. Being in the MCJROTC at Leon High has shown my family and I how much potential I have to become a good leader. Some achivements would be; ranking from a Private to Sargent in 1 and a half years, earned the title of being one of two supply chiefs for my battalion, will be attending the Paris Island boot camp feild trip this spring where we will experience what recruts half to go through for a solid week, earned a position on the competetive shooting team, and is aiming to become the S4 officer (Supply Officer) in my Junior year. I excel when I am physically an mentally challeged. I exceeded expectations in JROTC knowlege by passing the class with strait As. also when it comes to PT (physical training) I usally find my self leading exercises, and motivating my fellow cadets during them.
In my spare time and vacations with family I explore nature and spend alot of time in wilderness . I have learned to make fire in unfavorable circumstances, and I have learned to identify edible plants and local trees. I love to hike and sleep out doors. I also set up and care for my familys and I's gear. Some other related talents I posses is woodworking, cooking, and fishing.
Fortunatly for me, my father has discoverd the NOLS program. The main premis of this organization is outdoors and leadership education through exploration. With your support this NOLS Wind River Wilderness Expedition on June 8th to July 7th could be a transformative experience for me. It will help advance my self sufficiency and leadership skills so I will be prepared to make good choices when I graduate High School.
