Hi, my name is Matthew. I’m 28 years old, and I never thought I’d be in a position to write something like this. On July 20th, 2025—just five days before my birthday—I was rear-ended so hard that the truck I had just bought an hour earlier rolled twice before slamming into a bridge wall. What should have been an exciting day turned into one of the scariest moments of my life.

I’m grateful to still be here, but I didn’t walk away unharmed. I suffered a concussion, multiple facial fractures including a broken orbital socket and nose, stitches to my head and hand, three fractured ribs, a broken sternum, and severe road rash. Since that day, I haven’t been able to work and have been struggling to keep up with everyday bills while trying to focus on healing. To make matters more difficult, it’s still unclear if the other driver even had insurance, and because I had only owned my vehicle for an hour before the accident, I hadn’t had the chance to get it insured yet.

On August 7th, I have surgery to repair the damage to my eye, and I’ll need at least three more weeks of recovery afterward, leaving me out of work for well over a month. Bills are piling up fast, and it’s been incredibly overwhelming trying to stay afloat. Asking for help is hard for me, but I’ve reached a point where I can’t do it alone.
