Support a broke Aussie Geologist and His Family in Tanzania - scroll down to photos
Hello, I’m Clive Hastings, an Australian geologist living with my family in Tanzania.__________ I HAVE NO ASSETS. I am broke, my credit cards are maxed out and I owe friends money. Oh and the bank interest is 'killing me'.
Please trust me when I declare that sad fact. The money raised so far has already GONE, spread very thinly over the past 12 months amongst family members :-( It disappears like water through sand.
Without Gofundme we would already be destitute, homeless and living on the street. Its no joke, it terrifies me what could become of us.

Running this campaign has been detrimental to my professional integrity but amazingly I have received very few abusive comments. Repeated posting on Linkedin begging for help has meant fewer job offers.

I get asked why I don't go back to Australia. It's very simple: no work = no money. I am stuck in Africa unless my employer pays for the airfare.

Although we've faced challenging times there is always been some hope. There are interested parties from Australia with Tanzanian projects and several elsewhere who are offering work. But these things move slow and often fade away. I’m reaching out for your support to bridge this critical period. I have never been this low before.

PLEASE, WE NEED YOUR DONATIONS. WITHOUT HELP THIS FAMILY CAN FACE SEVERE HARDSHIP WITHIN A MONTH.

Please understand, this plea for help is NOT A SCAM and there is no BS here. I'm seriously having an ongoing crisis trying to support my large family, its very stressful. My marriage is being shredded, I am not sure its going to survive after this. Broken promises, bad luck and disappointment time and time again.

In hindsight it's hard to believe this campaign has dragged on as long as it has. I liken my situation to 'the donkey and the carrot' story, me being the donkey and promised work as the carrot. Month after month I seem to be waiting for something promised to happen!

A Bit About My Situation Since launching this GoFundMe campaign in June, the incredible generosity of supporters has helped us raise over $28,000 AUD, which has gone toward essential expenses and has been thinly stretched over the past year, such as rent, food, transport and school fees.
However, living costs continue, and the funds we’ve raised have been fully utilized to meet our immediate needs. The MONEY IS SPENT; it disappears like water !!!
Bad luck and broken promises of work during 2024 and now 2025 had placed my family in a dire situation.

My claim for the Australian pension was denied as I’m residing outside Australia, leaving me unable to return to Perth to seek work. While I'm working to establish a sustainable source of income here, I’m reaching out for some help to keep us going.

My Goals. I’m responsible not only for my own family but also for an extended family of 10-15 Tanzanian children, whom we’ve supported over 20+ years. Three of them are my own children. This financial responsibility has been both rewarding and challenging, and I’m now focusing on building a lasting future here.

Here’s how your support can make a difference:
1. Family Well-being: Ensure the well-being of my family and extended relatives while we live frugally in Tanzania.
2. Education Continuity: Help keep my children and extended family members in school, from primary education through university.
3. Geoscience Consultancy: I am passionate about launching a geoscience consultancy business in Tanzania, where I have identified potential clients. I would be open to offers of international work. I plan to join forces with a Tanzanian business partner who is in the mining industry.
4. Resolving Residency and Obtaining a Work Permit: Securing my residency status here to continue supporting my family long-term. I need a two year work permit.
I am now considering Tanzanian citizenship, a scary but practical move.
5. Small Business Capital: Various family members require capital to kickstart a small business. Semi-skilled jobs are very low paying so the alternative is to go into business. My future is meshed with their future; I must nurture their my children.

Looking Forward with Optimism. I have worked across Africa since 2001 and have always been committed to supporting my family. Although job opportunities have been slow to materialize, I’m taking steps to change that. Your support during this transition means the world to us, and every donation helps keep us moving forward.

Thank you for considering our story and any support you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Please Donate Now.

Its possibly unbelievable to most people but, I AM WITHOUT ASSETS in my own name, either in Australia or Tanzania. No house or land, No Superannuation, No car, No social security.
Stone cold NOTHING. I am close to being destitute.
All I have is my laptop, phone and my treasured JBL speaker. However, I do have a wonderful, much loved extended Tanzanian family ! And now, please help me keep them safe.
