The inspiration for Ourobos Noir International came from the dual stories of the Ouroboros. The Ourobos is one of the oldest symbols known to Man and appears in many cultures across the globe.
According to some myths, Ouroboros was the first creature created by The Creator. He took the shape of a serpent eating its own tail in a circle. He was made in this way because he needed nothing outside of himself and was able to sustain and regenerate himself autonomously.
Other myths suggest that Ouroboros was the symbol of self-destruction. Ouroboros ate his own tail because he had such little knowledge of himself that he could not recognize his own tail as a part of him, so he sought to devour it, to consume it, to benefit from it, to exploit it.
These opposing but related stories of the Ouroboros reflect both the potential and current states of the African Diaspora. If we gain enough knowledge of self, through relationship, then we can cease the self-destruction and fragmentation that we are currently experiencing. If we take steps to do this then we can find our way towards the other state of Ouroboros, in which we are conscious of our fundamental interrelation and interdependence and no longer would have to rely upon entities and institutions outside of ourselves.
Ourobos Noir International is our humble step towards that. In funding this project you, our beloved donors, are contributing towards a Black-oriented business that bridges interests and commerce between African businesses and peoples throughout the Diaspora. With the dual philosophies of the Ouroboros at the core of our businesses ethics and vision we begin our Diasporic conversation.
