Leukemia - Our Goliath
On April 22nd of this year, our 29 year old son received a diagnosis that had an extreme impact on our entire family. Nick was told, after an agonizing two month period of doctor appointments and tests, that he has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (A.L.L.). Though we were relieved to finally have a name for the giant we are facing, the shock was overwhelming. How can this be? Three months ago, Nick was a vibrant, healthy young man. He has a wife and nine year old daughter. What does this mean for our son and our family?
Praise God, A.L.L. is treatable! Nick has undergone a very agressive treatment of radiation and chemotherapy over the past two months and is now in need of a bone marrow transplant. His insurance will only approve this treatment at the Mayo Clinic of which there are three in the US. We appealed this decision and requested to have the surgery in Houston, but our appeal was denied. But Praise God again, as one of the clinics are in Phoenix, Az where we have family. If it can't be done in Texas, Arizona is the next best place and the Mayo Clinic is world renowned for there success with bone marrow transplants.
So as we move on to the next step in this journey, Nick and his dad will be headed to Arizona. Nick's insurance covers some of the expenses, but only the first airfare is covered for Nick and one family member. Over the next six to nine months Nick will be in Arizona for most of this time and our family will be alternately flying back and forth to support Nick as he faces the battle of his life and some will have to take time off without pay. Studies show that family support and a keeping a positive attitude are half the battle.
We are asking our friends and family to help us with the next step of our journey. If you are able to help, please make a donation and we thank you in advance for your generosity. All donations will be used for traveling and living expenses. If you are unable to donate, but would like to help, please be in prayer for a complete healing for our son Nick and continued provision for our family. We are believing God for a miraculous healing and we thank you in advance for standing with us in prayer. We serve a mighty God and know that He is capable of seeing our son and our family through this battle of our lives!
