Our Vietnamese family's house destroyed in flood
Donation protected
Every year in Da Nang during the rainy season, people living in certain areas of Da Nang, Vietnam, have their houses flooded due to poor drainage and infrastructure. It's always a nervy time of year for our family who usually contend with a flooded front yard and house. On bad years water can reach knee high. They deal with it by trying to put their belongings, fridge and appliances up on high places like kitchen benchtops, tables and beds.
The flooding was so bad this year that they had to leave their house completely. Luckily they were able to wade to a neighbours house with a second floor where they spent the night. The water level was so high it almost reached their chest.
My wife was beside herself with worry because at one point, it was too dangerous for them to leave. They can't swim, and the downpour was intense. We are so grateful they made it out, and very grateful to Chu Phuong who housed them overnight.
The result of this horrible flood was that almost everything in their house was destroyed.
their, TV, beds and mattresses, sofa bed, 2 motorbikes, clothing and wardrobe, tables & chairs, 2 laptops, fans and virtually everything else in the house was completely waterlogged and soaked through.
The only way around this is to build a second level onto their house to at least have somewhere to go when flooding is predicted to happen. In the short term however, these guys would be so grateful for some help to replace some of their belongings.
Both of my sisters in law are university students, who need laptops to study and motorbikes to get to school. My father in law works hard to provide for them and needs somewhere to sleep so he can resume work. My wife and I help where we can, but we can't afford to do it alone.
How you can help
We're asking anyone to please spare anything, however small, to try and help these beautiful, kind and generous people. Even reaching half the target will be a godsend for these guys.
If you can please also share this as much as possible, we would all really appreciate it. Thanks for your time and generosity!
