OUR TRANSPLANT RECOVERY
Donation protected
My name is Leo Cortes I'm trying to raise this money for my donor Corey and I while we are recovering. My kidney transplant date is scheduled for February 28th and I am grateful to have found a match for me to receive a new start at life. My donor will be out of work for about 8 weeks, while I will be without work for 5 months or so and our jobs do not pay for time off regardless . I am asking for donations to assist both of us to cover our bills while we are out of work. Please whatever you can give will be much appreciated by my donor and myself everything helps.
I'm getting a kidney transplant due to having Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) caused by IGA Nephropathy a Auto-immune disease. I got diagnosed in March of 2017 with massive amounts of scar tissue that was irreversible. There is no cure for what I have all I can do is try to slow the progression with different types of treatments. The first treatment was taking steroids that slowed it down for a couple months but gave me HORRIBLE side effects and it's not a long term solution. My kidneys were so bad at that point that the only options were dialysis and transplant. I was forced to start Hemo-dialysis in September due to my kidneys failing completely which I currently do 3 days a week 4 hours a day. Somedays I feel ok, other days I feel too sick that all I can do is lay down and sleep. The transplant process was long and vigorous with dozens of exams and test having to be done but in the end it has all been worth it.
