Meet sweet little, 1 and 1/2 year old, Prince William, a.k.a., Lefty Hopkins Threeadore McPuggins 3rd. If you're wondering why the crazy name, it's because he came to us a tripod, having been found by the San Digeo Humane Society with a mangled front right leg that had to be amputated. In the year that we've been fortunate enough to love and care for him, he has brought us so much joy, laughter, love and silliness. We, and eveyrone he meets, adore him - except maybe his canine sister who mostly puts up with him. Neighborhood walks take extra long because we stop to share the cuteness. At the vet, I always have to factor in extra time because they will hold him captive in the back for extra snuggles. And, thankfully, as we've been spending waaay too much time at VCA, he gets the celebrity weclome upon arrival and rarely has his kennel door closed because everyone wants to say hi and give him love - I've heard he's even the screen saver on some computers. Why have we been at VCA so much? Well, in November, he started limping, then stopped putting any weight on his foot. Then his leg started to swell and felt very hot. Then he started getting sores on the swollen parts of his leg. The theory was that he had a fungal infection in his bone, and this has been confirmed. He has been to VCA 2-6 times a week since then, getting bandage changes, biopsies, wound vac care, a CT scan.... too much. Unfortunatly, despite all the care and medicine, the fungal infection is continuing to spread and we have no choice but to amputate. As you can imagine, this has been VERY expensive. With the amutation, we will have spent a little over $30,000 in the past 9 weeks. (We also had his crazy little teeth fixed back in March for about $5,500, will need to keep him on anti-fungal meds for the foreseeable future, and will likely need to try out different wheeled sling options for him in hopes that he will be able to keep up with his sister on walks.) I would MUCH rather be donating to a cause than asking for help, but....here we are. If you find it in your heart and means to help, we would be ever so grateful. He is truly the most amazing little guy and we are so fortunate that we get to love him and care for him. Thank you for your time and consideration.
