Our Survival Warrior
Ralph Peralta-Jimenez a loving husband, father of 4 and grandfather to 7 beautiful grandkids has devoted his entire life to provide for his family. He is a kind man who is always looking to offer a helping hand, loves to laugh and is the life of any party. Without a doubt a hard working man. As a proud member of Local 79 Union, he worked construction for many years and though he is retired is still an active member. Because of his Foreman experience, he was sent to ground zero days after 9/11 where he worked tirelessly 7 days a week often 16 hours a day for over a year in the recovery and cleanup effort.
In 2003 Ralph suffered from severe health issues due to the hazardous conditions of ground zero which forced him into early retirement. His diminishing health has kept him in & out of the hospital throughout the years. In 2019 he started experiencing leg pain and was eventually hospitalized due to severe clotting in his lower right leg. This resulted to an amputation below the knee in January 2020. With the support of his wife and kids and rehab he pulled through and still enjoyed his life never letting it get the best of him. He managed to learn how to drive with his left leg, mowed the lawn using his riding lawn mower and helped out with light housework.
September 2021 Ralph was faced with yet again another life threating situation. He went to the hospital for severe abdominal pain and soon discovered he had a bacterial infection which caused a blockage in his intestines and tissue to die. He underwent an emergency operation where they removed 4 feet of intestines. While he was still sedated and inteubated doctors found new clotting that was completely cutting off circulation to both of his legs. Doctors gave him a 20-30% chance of surviving another major surgery giving his family the option of letting him go peacefully. Ralph’s family now faced with a difficult decision, without a doubt gave him a fighting chance. Later that evening he underwent surgery and pulled through. He is now a double above the knee amputee. A few days later he was taken off sedation and given the bad news.
As you can imagine his world was turned upside down and will be changed forever. He is now facing a long road to recovery and will have to adapt to his new reality not only physically but mentally. Facing these new challenges will not be easy and the Jimenez family would like to make his 2nd chance at life as comfortable as possible. Ralph would love nothing more but his independence, to learn how to drive again, still be able to walk his daughters down the isle and enjoy his grandkids.
The Jimenez family is asking to please help us share his story and anyone who is interested in making just a small donation of any amount to help us accomplish our goal. Your donations will go towards getting Ralph a motorized scooter/wheel chair, making his home wheel chair accessible i.e.( wheelchair ramps, wheel chair accessible shower stall and any bathroom needs, wheel chair accessible van) and any other odds and ends to make him comfortable in his own home. Along with any medical bills and expenses that may arise.
We would like to thank every one in advance for helping out and for every one who has prayed for Ralph and his family thus far.
On behalf of the family I will post updates as they come and any progress being made. Again, thank you for all the support. God Bless!
