Peptia Campbell’s Battle with NMO (Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder).

Hello Everyone,

Many may not know of Peptia’s battle with NMO which is a rare disorder of the central nervous system that primarily affects the eye nerves (optic neuritis) and the spinal cord (myelitis) some may know this as Devic’s disease. Late November in 2019 is when Peptia started experiencing symptoms from disorder she woke up and she had no vision in her left eye Peptia said “ I woke up and everything was just dark in my left eye I could not see anything.” Peptia loss vision in her left eye for a month before her vision came back and shortly after that she loss vision in her right eye. Peptia was taken back to Conway Hospital and again they ran all kind of test and felt at that time the symptoms she was having was leaning toward Multiple Sclerosis.

Once the diagnosis was given Peptia and her family felt at ease with knowing what was causing the vision loss and started preparing to make the necessary decisions to provide the care that was needed for a Multiple Sclerosis patient, but during this time Peptia experienced the tragic loss of her granddaughter which really hurt her and still til this day. We are unsure if this was a reason that caused her to have a relapse, but she ended back in the hospital and this time she woke up complaining of severe body and leg pain. Peptia was in Conway Hospital for week when it was confirmed it was not Multiple Sclerosis and after multiple test being ran and unable to provide a diagnosis, they sent Peptia to Charleston that is where she was finally diagnosed correctly by a medical doctor.

Studies show that compared to 1 myelitis attack, more than 1 myelitis attack in the 1st year predicted more severe long-term disability. During the Peptia’s 1st year starting in late November in 2019 she had already had 3 attacks that she had experienced already. The road has been a long but grueling one and Peptia and her family are doing all they can to make sure she is taken care of. Peptia is continuing physical and occupational therapy, where she will be soon getting the baclofen pump which will reduce the spasticity that she experiences.

Peptia is a 45-year-old loving mother, grandmother, sister, Aunt, and friend and she has touched the lives of so many of us. Before all of this occurred Peptia loved to be in the kitchen cooking, she was very active in the gym, her grandchildren’s lives and working full time at the Magistrates office in Conway, South Carolina.

Peptia has health insurance and it covers somethings or only allow services covered for a certain amount of time which is only 2 hours of in-home care for her a day. Peptia needs more than 2 hours of nursing care due to what is generated from this rare disorder.

It is our hope that we can ease some of the financial stress as her family can just focus on a successful recovery of treatment for Peptia with little outside concerns as possible. Peptia and her family needs help now more than ever and we hope that everyone can come together to do just that. Peptia isn’t one to ask for help, but I we feel it is so deserving of this relief I pray we all can bring.

PLEASE! Don’t think No donation is too small. However, if you can not financially contribute and would still like to help out. PLEASE FEEL FREE to do the FOLLOWING:

We are uncertain of what the full cost would be for around the clock care for Peptia for 2 in home nurse’s who would split shifts would be, but the goal is to raise the money to help pay for this service. Peptia will need care around the clock from getting her up in the morning and doing what is needed for her through the day and as well as at night.

Thank you from the bottom of our hears and we appreciate any action of support you can provide, and to reinforce the love we have for Peptia and remind her that she is definitely not in this alone.

Sincerely,

The Family and Friends of Peptia
