Our Short Film, “Open”

Hi, we are a group of emerging filmmaker trying to make a story we care about! We are self funding most of it, but like any project, there have been unexpected large costs that are proving difficult to handle on our own. We are hoping you might help!

SYNOPSIS: This 20minute short film is about a single mother, Lily, raising her young spirited daughter with Autism, Elsie, when they uncover a horrifying bus full of trafficked victims. Lily summons all her courage to protect her daughter and the victims. This is a gripping story of resilience, maternal instinct, and the strength of ordinary people fighting to make the world better when confronted with the darkest parts of humanity.

Executive Producer: Ian Hale
Writer: Christila Ayom
Directors: Vanessa Cobbs and Christila Ayom
Producer: Emma Thomason
What we Need Your Help to Pay For:
  • Equipment: $6000
  • Insurance: $1000
  • Catering: $1500
  • Stunt Coordination: $1800

If we manage to get donation equaling over our goal, we will be able to invest money for post production costs (music composing and film festival entries). Any amount adds up so we appreciate every single dollar!

There will be a screening of the film when it is complete, and we'd love for all people donating to be able to watch it to see the film you helped create!

Director’s Statement – OPEN

We are Vanessa Cobbs and Christila Ayom, co-directors of OPEN, a short film born from our deep passion for social justice and our commitment to raising awareness about neurodivergence, single parenting, and human trafficking. This story is not just important to us—it’s urgent. Human trafficking is one of the darkest crises of our time, and far too often, the victims—especially women and children—go unheard and unseen. With OPEN, we want to change that.

Christila, as both the writer and cinematographer, has crafted a visually striking and emotionally powerful narrative that immerses audiences in the reality of this issue. Through raw, intimate storytelling and beautiful cinematography, we aim to pull viewers into a world that is both deeply personal and devastatingly real.

As directors, our goal is to create a film that not only raises awareness but also sparks conversation and action. OPEN is more than just a short film—it’s a call to attention, a demand for change. But to bring this vision to life, we need your support.
