Our School Our Right to Pray - SSHS
Donation protected
NOTICE: The Lee County School Board has now notified me through Mrs. Paysinger that I will NOT be allowed to place any ad with a religious message within the studium!
After attending the community meeting at Smiths Station Baptist Youth Center tonight and listening to the Smiths Station Fellowship of Christian Athletes, I have decided that the funds collected through this GoFundMe Account should go to this FCA program to further their ministry. The students are as wise as any adult I heard speak tonight. I know they will use these funds as to further the word in the best light possible and fight hard for their right to pray.
If you are one of the many that donated through GoFundMe and is not interested in letting your donation go to the Smiths Station Fellowship of Christian Athletes, I understand completely if you go take back your donation.
Only a few hours ago I thought thatthis was a SAD day for this community but after listening to these young people speak about their faith I will have to say I do not believe it is a sad day after all. These young people are ready to take up the fight. RAK CHAZAK AMATS!
For over 50 years Smiths Station High School students in this small Alabama town have been allowed to pray before football games and other sporting events. However following the 1st game of this season vs. Opelika someone contacted a liberal group that threatened the Lee Co BOE with a lawsuit if they allowed it to continue so they ordered the schools throughout the distict to disallow the practice at future school events. Before the prayer issue came up at Smiths Station High School, Green's Propane Gas had agreed to sponsor the new football scoreboard. This would allow them to place an advertisement across the bottom of the board for $5000. Green's Propane Gas has decided that they will go ahead and do this sponsorship and put the Lords Prayer on their half. We need both halves sold before the school will install the sign. Please consider making a donation to make this purchase to see prayer honoured in the community.
