Yesterday, Debi was laying in bed when she smelled smoke. She got up to investigate and her bathroom was filled with thick, black smoke but no fire. She ran outside to see if it was coming from out there and found small flames coming up from underneath her house. She called 911 and grabbed the hose and started putting the fire out herself until the fire truck arrived. One of the firemen told her she saved her house by acting so quickly. They investigated, crawled under the house, and determined it was put out. They disconnected the power and told my parents they needed to stay in a hotel until they could get it inspected and fixed. There was some work that needed to be done to fix the smoke damage and double check everything under the house, but it was manageable. Our parents packed an outfit and headed to a hotel for the night. They had been reassured the fire was out and they could come back in the morning to assess the damage and get any personal belongings they needed while they couldn't stay over night there.
A few hours later, the fire relit. Within minutes, the house was completely engulfed in flames. We prayed they would be able to save part of it but the strong winds kept the fire burning...for hours. Our family watched as our parents' home burned down. All of our childhood memories, all of our birthday get togethers, all of our family Christmases, so many memories. They lost everything!!
We are starting this fundraiser to try to help them pick up the pieces. Our parents are the most selfless people I know. Lance works harder than anyone I have ever met! Debi is the most generous person who would give the shirt off her back to help someone else. If you crossed paths with her, you know just how amazing she is! Many people in the community know her as Ms Debi because she worked at Camp Mohave Elementary School for 20 years. They have helped raised many of our friends throughout the years. Mom's house was always a safe place for everyone to go. It is now our turn to return the favor and help them. Anything helps! They have 2 outfits and their dogs left. If you cannot donate, please say a prayer for them. We are grateful they are safe, but this is devastating!!
