My mom came home from the hospital last night and she had a letter with her that my dad had written (see pictures), and as I read it, it brought me to tears
#1 Because after all he’s been through and the prognosis he was given the fact that he can even comprehend what’s happened let alone write such a beautiful & humbling letter is a miracle .
#2 Because in ALL of my life my Dad has never, not even once asked for help from anyone and I can’t even begin to imagine how hard it is for him to humbly lay down his pride and ask for any help at all.
The letter my dad has written helps explain a little background of the situation he is in, but doesn’t go into further detail. You see, for years my Dad has tried to get dental coverage and help from the VA, but, sadly, even as a Veteran, they don’t offer dental coverage. Because of that his teeth have become very broken down and he has lost many of them. He’s talked about dentures and implants in the past but neither of those would be covered by insurance and would cost thousands upon thousands so he just kept pushing it off, until it almost cost him his life .
As most of you know, my parents have been here in Tennessee visiting us since October, on 12/6 my father became unresponsive and was rushed to the closest hospital via ambulance. He was put on life support and was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis, which then caused multiple strokes and complete hearing loss. The head CT and Brain MRI both confirmed pan sinusitis (a sinus infection), which the Internal Medicine doctor believe was caused by his broken down teeth that caused an infection in his gums which traveled to his sinuses. My parents sole income is my dads VA benefits and my moms social security and so unfortunately they can not afford out of pocket what it would cost for dental implants to help prevent something like this from ever happening again.
I am also NOT someone who normally asks for help or support (I come by it honestly lol), and I know it’s Christmas time and possibly a tighter time financially for a lot of people. But, after reading my dad’s humbling letter, I could not NOT try and reach out and ask for help for my Dad given how far he’s come in his miraculous recovery and how much he needs this ♥️.
I’ve created a GoFundMe and will attach the link in the comments. If anyone would like to donate via VenMo or PayPal instead my VenMo is @DanielleHinkleRN and my PayPal is [email redacted]. If you can not donate I 100% understand, your prayers have been BEYOND appreciated and I truly believe that the power of prayer from hundreds and our gracious Lord is what helped save my Daddy .
