”Just one bite was all it took…”

Ever had a vision so exciting that it becomes impossible to sleep peacefully?

Well, it’s 4 a.m. on a Tuesday at which point a virtual voice of ambition suddenly began tapping me on the head and questioning me “HEY! Why haven’t you tried GoFundMe? I mean, you’ve literally been blessed to discover that your friend and talented business partner, whom you’ve known for nearly 15+ years making music actually possesses the cooking skills to transport you back to when your mom was alive. Remember how she’d lift the spirits of anyone who had a discerning tastebud? You do realize that this business partner of yours embodies the ability to naturally and effortlessly attract a community of good energy and camaraderie? I mean you can literally taste the love and devotion in every dish, right?”. Yes… that annoyingly soft, yet stern voice of ambition questioned me at 4 a.m. on a Tuesday. And so I began typing frenetically.

My business partner Antoine “Hollywood” Bray is recovering strongly from a recent stroke after taking a high-altitude trip just over a year ago. The incident left him in a coma for 2 weeks. And although Hollywood suffered some weakness in mobility, his innate ability to entertain and please others was not at all affected. Without any introductions, Hollywood’s natural authenticity gained him an extended family as many of my relatives received him as one of their own. This guy whom I call my brother has a drive, personality, and character to which I aspire daily. Hollywood awoke from that coma with zeal as I’ve never seen!

suffice it to say, Hollywood and I are no strangers to hard times. Yet, we keep pushing and pursuing our many passions. On the music production side of things, Hollywood and I have always been a dynamic duo. I would lend my talents as a producer, audio engineer, videographer, and graphic designer and he would write and perform some of the most addictive creations with ease, no pen and paper needed. So when Hollywood introduced to me his latest ambition nearly six months ago, I was admittedly skeptical because I naively didn’t even know he could cook. Big mistake! Just one bite was all it took and I was on a mission! I did go back one week later for another taste to confirm that I wasn’t delusional. It was real, I knew he had something, and the feeling has been mutual for many of the first patrons. Now listen. Anybody can cook, but not everyone can really cook. I’ve never had or heard of gravy fries until now and the flavor is astonishing. And typically, chicken wings are mediocre to me but believe me, this is not your ordinary chicken wing! The crispness and seasoning are perfection. Hollywood also serves his plates with the whole wing, which is not common but definitely appreciated because I just can’t seem to get enough of the goodness. Be careful, these are guilty pleasure meals. My tastebuds are dancing just thinking about it. Over the years, people have gravitated to us for our many talents for a reason, and this is definitely no exception. Hollywood knows what he’s doing and his talents combined with mine are infectious. When it comes to exceptional creativity and talent, cooking is second nature.

I’m springing into action again...

So here we are. And as with any ambition that has a strong potential, the need for support in order to grow is vital. We checked off many of the small business startup boxes and have been successful at gaining new and repeat orders as well positive reviews through DoorDash deliveries and pickups. We have an official website and also have had a lot of fun creating our online promotions, merchandise, and marketing.

It’s no secret many business startups tend to misstep when attempting to grow by getting in over their heads with business loans and debt. Thus good ideas never have a chance to be great. This is our moment to do it right! We’ve tirelessly pursued small business grants and support, but we are still too young of a business to be eligible. This is a critical hurdle many startups are not educated about. And we’d like to keep and gain momentum while we work daily to support ourselves and recover.

We want to be wise and start small and grow consistently but also conservatively. This is why up to this point, operations and sales have been done from the home/apartment. We’re definitely ready to expand and to do that, we’ll need a food truck. This will allow us to grow and transition at a manageable pace.
