While watching flames from her balcony, my mom, Deborah Lloyd, frantically threw a few things in a bag, thinking she’d be leaving for a day. She had the clothes on her back, her computer, and a few toiletries, and that was it. Her safety is all that matters, but it’s hard not to think about all of the memories and cherished items that will never be recovered. She’s lived in the Palisades for 37 years and refused to leave even when her kids started having grandbabies (and begged her to!!) because the Palisades is and always will be her home.
I’ve watched my mom stay incredibly strong and clear-headed throughout this tragedy and become Nana the instant she walked into our house, even though her world was crumbling around her. Her grandson Dylan (2), who didn’t know what was going on, asked when he could go to Nana’s house next because he loves the beach so much. Needless to say, there have been many tears shed, and we want to help our mom in any way we can including finding a new place, and trying to piece together items and essentials to enable her to rebuild her life.
We are fundraising to help my mom rebuild her life after losing her home in the fire. We want to support our mom, who has been a pillar of strength for our family, especially for her grandkids.
