Hi, we are mayflower stud & transport we are small breeders of sports horses, we also run a horse transport business throughout the UK. Last year, Hannah, our main transport driver decided to breed a foal from her homebred mare Chardonnay. Chardonnay is the daughter of Mayflower Jo our foundation mare and the mare that started it all and whom the business is named after. Hannah intends to keep this foal as her own.
At 287 days gestation Chardonnay showed signs of placentitis an infection of the placenta that causes abortion, she was treated and has managed to hang on to her foal for as long as she could. Day 317 she couldn’t hold out any longer and delivered a filly foal. She is a month premature which is pretty catastrophic but she’s fighting and we’re trying to do all we can but it’s a long long road of 24/7 support. She has contracted tendons, inverted eyelid causing an ulcer, she’s unable to stand and sickle so we’re bottle feeding and helping her stand with splints on her legs. We are praying for a miracle and whilst keeping the transport business running and working we’re doing all we can. Emma, dot & I are pulling all night shifts, living off 1-2 hrs sleep a day but we’re prepared to give her what she needs.
