On September the 14th 2018, Jade and Peter's life changed in an instant. Their darling 3 month old son displayed signs of Bronchitis. After a chest X-Ray, they soon learned that their baby boy had a problem with his heart and was suffering from heart failure. Dilated Cardiomyopathy would soon be a word they would become too familiar with. His heart function was sitting at around 10% that day. After failed medications, Lachlan underwent open heart surgery on the 3rd of October to install a mechanical device known as a Berlin Heart. This would be his lifeline until a heart transplant that suited would become available. Lachlan remained in 24 hour care at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, this would be his home for the next 11 months. On the 5th of August 2019, Lachlan's mechanical heart malfunctioned unexpectedly. While the doctors managed to revive him, unfortunately the damage that occurred would give him no quality of life to carry on with. This led to Jade and Peter's nightmare of having to say their last goodbyes to their son.
While he might not have received the heart he was waiting for, Lachlan has become a hero to all of us, by donating some of his own organs to save another life.
After the struggle Jade and Peter have faced financially throughout this ordeal, any donations to help support them and to help them get back on their feet, as well as fund funeral costs would be greatly appreciated. This is an incredibly difficult time for the family and they need all the support they can get.
