Corona Virus nearly killed my wife, Jenna, TWICE.
Beschermde donatie
Hi, my name is Rob. I am hoping that with your help I can bring some stability and safety to my wife, Jenna. Jen has been severely affected by the Coronavirus and it has left us both wondering where we go from here.
Jen tested positive for the Corona Virus whilst in hospital early in October 2020, she was displaying no symptoms. At this point, she had been admitted to the hospital to deal with an ongoing kidney infection, and it was approximately her 8th or 9th admission. As she had tested positive I also took a test and was confirmed positive too. So Jen was in hospital really very ill as it had only been two weeks since she was in for Septic shock, which nearly killed her. Now she was alone in the hospital and I was alone and isolated at home, could this really get any worse???
So due to her mental health conditions, of which she has several due to a very traumatic upbringing from just being a few years old has been drenched in abuse, loss and abandonment, she was allowed home early to finish her convalescence at home with me and the pets.
Everything seemed relatively normal, well for 2020, until 13th October when Jen started to show signs of what I thought was a side effect of the virus. She was delusional, muttering to herself and sleeping uncontrollably. Little did I know at this point that this was early-onset hypoxia.
The following morning I awoke as normal, went downstairs to let out the dogs and put the kettle on. After making a brew and feeding the pets I went back to the bedroom to rouse Jen, this is when things started to go wrong, very wrong.
Jen never and I mean NEVER stayed in bed longer than me, even if she was ill. I tried to wake her, and she just shrugged me off and rolled over. I continued to try and this is when she had her first fit. It was only a small one, but then two and three came shortly thereafter and so followed a 43-minute call to the ambulance service whereupon at one point I was doing chest compressions to keep Jen breathing whilst waiting on the paramedics...
The FRV arrived first and then a three-man ambulance. They had NOT been told that we were a Covid-19 positive household which made the whole situation worse.
She was rushed to our local hospital on a blue light run and was immediately intubated and put on oxygen. This was the Wednesday, by the Saturday she was in a medically induced coma and they had arranged transport to take her to one of only 5 units in the country that could deal with her condition.
She was placed on an ECMO (Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation) machine, which is what they use for heart and lung transplant patients, and she would remain on this for the next three weeks.
Subsequently, I have lost my job and am now a full-time carer for Jenna, she was the one who kept the household running and together and now all of a sudden it is down to me. She has trouble walking upstairs even now over 12 months later. She has no energy and has lost all her mojo.
Her business has failed, we can’t pay our bills, my parents and family are still buying food for us. We are running out of time, and somehow I need to find a way to make ends meet. We are on the verge of losing our house, our pets, everything. She cannot even look after her horse and we have to rely on other people to take care of him for us.
Any help that you can give would go a long way to taking the pressure off us both, and hopefully, give us the time we need to get back on our feet.
I would like to thank you for taking the time to read all this, which doesn’t even scratch the surface of our problems, and thank you for any help that you can give to help us keep our house and home.
Thank you.
Rob.
