If you know Lace, you know she’s the first to help others, the first to brighten a room with her smile, and the last to ever ask for help for herself. But right now, she needs us.
Over the past 18 months, Lace’s health has taken a heartbreaking turn. She’s lost the ability to do many things, some as simple as showering herself, and has been through countless and very costly therapies and treatments, desperately searching for answers.
She has now been in hospital for over 7 weeks with no clear end in sight. She has endured test after test — MRIs, PET scans, CT’s, bone marrow, brain nerve block , endoscopies, colonoscopies — yet the complications remain. On top of this, she now suffers constant, debilitating cluster headaches 3-4 times a day, that can only be managed with oxygen and injections. She has lost a significant amount of weight and muscle, and doctors are still searching for what’s causing it all. Lace has even been accepted into a University Study in the hope of finding a cure.
For now, hospital is the only safe place for her. She simply isn’t well enough to go home.
Being unable to work has been one of the hardest parts for Lace. She loves her job and her clients dearly, but she has exhausted all her leave entitlements and now has no income. While she is applying for NDIS support, the process is lengthy and uncertain.
As a 46-year-old mother, the financial stress of supporting herself and her son, while also facing ongoing out of pocket gap hospital bills now in the tens of thousands, mortgage payments and everyday expenses, this has become very overwhelming for her. She is likely facing lifelong disabilities and will require long-term support from physios, OTs and other specialists.
Lace has always been strong, but she can’t face this alone. This is where we can step in for her. It isn’t easy for Lace to accept help, but she has allowed us to do this for her to ease the load and give her a chance to focus on her health. Even the smallest contribution will make a huge difference. If donating isn’t possible right now, sharing her story can be just as powerful.
Thank you for loving her like we do.
