Welcoming Lucia: Our Journey Through the NICU
Welcome to Lucia Mia Delgado's page! Carlos and Stephanie would like to first start off by expressing how touched they are by the overwhelming outpouring of prayers, support, and comfort during this challenging time.

On March 29th, Stephanie received the unexpected diagnosis of preeclampsia, leading to her immediate hospitalization. Initially, the plan was to monitor her symptoms and, most importantly, Lucia, until May 14th. However, in the early hours of March 31st, Stephanie displayed signs of HELLP syndrome, prompting an emergency c-section to ensure Lucia's safety at just 28 weeks gestation, much earlier than her expected due date of June 23rd.

And so began Lucia's NICU journey, a journey Carlos and Stephanie hadn't anticipated. It's been heartbreaking for them to not have their precious baby girl at home with them, but they take comfort in Lucia’s remarkable strength, as she was born both crying and breathing on her own. In conjunction with the incredible care provided by the NICU CHOC Team, Carlos and Stephanie kindly ask for your continued prayers and support as they navigate this uncharted territory.

Stephanie was discharged on April 3rd, still grappling with the effects of HELLP syndrome and facing strict restrictions. This leaves Carlos to care for Stephanie while also attending daily NICU visits together. Any assistance to ease the burden of medical expenses, the absence of baby necessities (as they were unable to have a baby shower), and the strain of daily tasks would mean the world to Carlos and Stephanie. Their sole focus is on being present for their daughter during her NICU stay, which unexpectedly requires additional time off work beyond standard maternity and paternity leave.

Due to Stephanie's preeclampsia and Lucia's premature birth, Lucia will remain in the NICU for an extended period of time. Your prayers and support will help sustain them through this challenging journey. As parents, Carlos and Stephanie are leaning on each other and their faith for strength. While they eagerly anticipate the day when they can bring their princess home, they treasure every moment spent by her side.

Out of consideration for Lucia's fragile condition, Carlos and Stephanie have decided not to share photos of her at this time. Once again, they want to express their deepest gratitude for your unwavering prayers, love, and support.

They invite you to join them in prayer and meditation on Psalm 91 “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust."

They are trusting that God will lead them through the upcoming months until they can finally embrace their daughter at home.
