My name is James and my wife's name is Stephanie. We met 10 years ago in 2008 and instantly hit it off. We were 2 young adults out enjoying life when our paths crossed one night out in the city. We exchanged numbers and it felt like "love at first sight" wasn’t just a myth. She was (and still is) very beautiful!! She's very family oriented, she came from a good home and she was most of all smart and focused! She even kept me on a straight path and helped me with everything I needed to focus on in my life. Her family accepted me as their own and my family did the same with her. It wasn’t only me who knew she was THE ONE!!!! A few years into our relationship the time came for me to ask her to be my wife. SHE SAID YES!!! We had a wedding most people dream of having. To see the smile on her face walking down the aisle made it all worth it. My Wife. My Queen. My Everything.
My wife has dedicated her life to teaching the young minds of children who love and adore her as their 1st grade teacher. The countless stories she comes home with, telling me how some of the students call her their "school mommy" or some of the students asking if they can come home with her!
For many years we thought she just had very intense and painful cramps during her menstrual cycles to the point where she would be on the floor slouched over in pain or in the tub soaking in hot water all night. After trying to conceive naturally, with hurdles on both sides, we came to one of many roadblocks when she was diagnosed with endometriosis.
If you were to say 4 and a half years ago when we got married that we would be hit with infertility issues knowing how healthy and active my wife is, who has never done drugs, who can barely drink a full glass of wine, I would have told you that you're crazy! Not Her!
Infertility is one of the hardest things we have ever been through, and as much as we love being Godparents, we dream of being called MOMMY and DADDY.
The toll it takes mentally and emotionally is rough after watching my beautiful wife endure surgeries due to endometriosis and 3 failed attempts at IVF. At times, feeling helpless, and at a loss for words to support my wife through our journey. But when I don’t have the words to say to help lift her spirits, she definitely has the words to say to help lift mine. She is my rock!
So how does it work:
The process of IVF starts with my wife being put on medication and injections daily that she will take to stimulate her ovaries to produce multiple follicles.
Once the follicles are at a certain size she will have a surgery to extract her eggs. Our fertility doctor will then do testing on all the eggs to weed out the ones that are not mature.
After that is complete, they will inject all the good eggs with my sperm. They will watch the embryos grow over the next 5-6 days, with updates on day 3 and 5, and the ones that make it will be sent out for genetic testing to make sure only the best are left.
The financial burden of IVF was and is very daunting, but our desire to have a family has only gotten stronger, as our relationship has through these times.
Finances are the #1 barrier to treating infertility. 1 round of IVF is nearly $32,000 out of pocket after factoring in anesthesia costs and prescription drugs which are no longer covered by insurance.
We totally understand that many people have problems of their own and maybe won't even take the time to read this far and that is completely okay. But as we humble ourselves, we hope that you, our friends and family, can help our dreams of being parents become a reality. Whether it is through financial support, an encouraging message, or even a prayer, we promise you this request was not made easily as we were very hesitant to open our lives to the world. Any and all donations we are so grateful for. We hope to start our next round of IVF in February 2019.
