Hi my name is Alex and I’m raising money to keep my house standing. My husband and I bought this house in Kanata in January. We just moved back home to Ottawa after living in Alberta since my husband was posted to Cold Lake as a Firefighter with the military in 2017.

We went camping one weekend in August and upon our return, found a huge crack in our foundation. After spending most of our savings moving back to Ottawa and my husband taking a near 55% pay cut to allow us the privilege of raising our children (ages 3 and 6 months) near grandparents and cousins, we have now incurred $60,000 in debt since insurance has denied our claim. This amount only covers the excavation around our house.

Since August our house has started sinking and rotating. We now have more cracks inside and outside the house, the floors are not level and the back wall is bowing out. We have been paying for geotechnical engineers to assess the quality of the ground, a structural engineer to ensure our house is still livable, and for a ton of wood to put up shoring supports throughout the house.

Money raised will be used to replace the entire back foundation wall as well as other incidentals (engineering reports, legal fees, permits, etc).
