Two weeks ago, a fire tore through our apartment building in Toronto, leaving multiple families displaced/homeless and scared for our future. The Red Cross helped us with hotel stays for a short time, but that support has now ended. The City is placing us in shelters, possibly separate families. Even though we still have valid leases, our rights are silently being ignored and stripped away.

Since the night of the fire, our landlord has completely disappeared. We’ve called, emailed, and even sent letters, but there has been no response at all. We’ve received no updates, no timeline for repairs, and no assurance that we’ll ever be allowed back into our apartments. Instead, we’re being quietly pushed to “clear out” our homes—with no compassion and no accountability.

We are mothers, fathers, children, and seniors. We are hardworking families who built our lives in this community. In just one night, everything changed. We lost not only our belongings but also our peace of mind, our safety, and now our dignity.

This fundraiser will help us:

• Pay for temporary housing while we’re displaced, so our families aren’t separated and forced into shelters.

• Cover food and basic necessities while we rebuild our lives.

• Get legal representation to demand straight answers, protect our tenancy rights, and hold our landlord accountable for his silence and neglect.

We aren’t asking for luxury or pity—just fairness, truth, and stability. No family deserves to be abandoned after a tragedy.
