Our Home on Wheels Was Destroyed

Donation protected
We are Andrew and Sophie and have been living in our now destroyed Landcruiser for the past 6 months. We have been building the car together for nearly 3 years and Andrew has been building it himself for nearly a decade. To some, vehicles are just cars, to Andrew this car is his life, his passion, his obsession, his ability to get to rural and interstate work. Some might say this could be to his detriment but I can tell you all now you can't stop this boy from making his dream even if it doesn't make sense at times.

4 days ago a driver of a small hatchback travelling at seemingly excessive speed has collided side on with our land cruiser causing our vehicle to roll onto the drivers side.
Andrew was stopped on a yellow light turning right at the intersection of Victoria Rd and chapel street, he waited until the traffic has stopped allowing him to make his right turn to ensure he was no longer in the intersection, the above stated vehicle flew up the inside lane of the stopped traffic, (this lane is generally for parking/ the bus stop before the intersection and then returns to a parking lane after the intersection) Despite the multiple witness statements presenting her speed and manner of driving to be negligent, we have been deemed at fault due to the fact that we were the "turning vehicle" at the intersection. The attending police officer on the case has stated that even if the driver of the other vehicle was traveling in excess of the 60km per hour speed limit, that we are at fault being the turning vehicle at the intersection, as we were to give way to the oncoming traffic.

Because of this we have no insurance coverage. and are forced to attempt to rebuild or purchase a new vehicle, rebuild our home and lives.

This wasn't just a car, it was Andrews pride and joy for nearly a decade, spending hours on end week after week teaching himself how to work on vehicles and refusing to ever take it to be worked on because it was his passion. It was Sophie and Andrews home together. It was our way of getting to the often remote work that we do. We have lost our car, home, and work all in one.

Absolutely anything that you could contribute in order to assist us in the recovery from this incident and repairing / purchasing a new vehicle would be so greatly appreciated.

Much love
