Hello friends and family! As you all know Natalie has been battling brain cancer since April 2019. Her first diagnosis, April 2019, was an Optic Pathway Glioma, a grade one tumor. Her treatment was a year of chemotherapy infusions, 1 treatment a month for 12 months.  Her second diagnosis was October 2020. She was diagnosed  with an anaplastic astrocytoma, a grade 3 tumor. Her treatment was 30 rounds of proton therapy radiation and 42 rounds of oral chemo. Her battle continues for the 3rd time. Natalie has MRI scans every three months to monitor her brain to make sure there aren't any changes. In her MRI scan in October 2022, they saw an area of concern. They wanted to wait until her scan in January 2023 to determine if the area of concern was something to be concerned about. Well, it was. The area of concern had doubled in size and her neuro oncologist determined that it was in fact another tumor. This time it is on her spinal cord. We are headed back to see her oncologist at MD Anderson in Houston, TX. There, they are going to get some more specialized scans of the area. Her scans will be presented  to the tumor board and then we'll meet with the oncologist to go over possible treatment plans. We will also meet with a neurosurgeon to see if a biopsy is possible. A biopsy will let us know how aggressive and what grade the tumor is. It will also let us know the molecular makeup of it and that will better help them know how to treat it. This tumor is in a very delicate area and they're not sure they'll be able to get to it. If a biopsy is feasible, it is a very intense brain surgery. She is an amazing warrior. She remains strong and faithful.
