Our Heart Warrior, Maxwell De Gracia

UPDATE: Maxwell is home and doing well. We have had an X-ray and three follow up appointments so far. His X-ray shows stable and his doctors are happy with how he is doing outside of the hospital. His breathing has changed since surgery so they will continue to monitor that along with the holes in heart. His cardiologist has also ordered for another X-ray to ensure he is not accumulating any fluid. If this one is stable another one may not be needed until he goes back to his normal diet. It will be a true miracle if the leak sealed up on its own considering how much fluid was dumping out.

UPDATE: His second procedure was unfortunately unsuccessful. We will remain in the ICU for a little longer. The doctors/ surgeons are currently coming up with a new plan to close his leak. We are hoping for surgery early next week.

Maxwell was diagnosed with 22Q Deletion Syndrome aka as Digeorge Syndrome. With that his anatomy is different and this is why we are running into speed bumps.

Wow! What a few several weeks it has been and as for Maxwell, our handsome heart warrior, he has truly lived up to his name these past few weeks.

On February 17th, 2023 he was admitted at CHOC hospital where he had an open heart surgery to correct a double aortic arch (vascular ring) that he was born with. This unfortunately caused a fluid leak that is now leading to another procedure.

These past few weeks have been tough on our family both emotionally and financially. We did not anticipate on being in the hospital this long nor did we except another procedure to follow. Anything helps, nothing is too small.

Thank you for all your support, prayers, and kind words. We can’t wait to bring our boy home.
