Our Grief, Your Help

Donation protected
With a heavy heart, I bear the unfortunate news that Thomas J. Wells, my stepfather, passed away early morning on Saturday, January 8th, 2022. This has been an unexpected blow to our family, especially for his wife and my mother, Sherry. After much consideration, my sister Katie and I have decided to go against our initial thoughts, lower our walls, and on behalf of our mother, ask for a little help.

At 77 years of age, Tom was by no means a strapping young buck anymore, but his untimely passing still came without warning. Along with that was the lack of a plan for the "if" and "when" this did happen. My mother is now unfortunately left with not only the grief of losing her best friend and partner, coordinating everything required from his passing, but also the burden of covering the outstanding and upcoming expenses that follow. My sister, our families and I are currently doing all we can to help, including bringing our funds together, but we've quickly realized that we could also use help.

With Tom being the primary provider for the two, his death, along with their financial situation prior, has and will have a huge impact to my mother's ability to stabilize financially in the coming months. We are already taking steps to ensure that she is taken care of in the near future, to include their Social Security situation and the possibility of an unknown existing Life Insurance policy for Tom, but right now we are in somewhat of a bind. I don't like airing anyone's laundry, especially my mothers, but I've put together a list of past/upcoming expenses due, which she is unable to cover. I'm doing this to allow any potential donors our full transparency on what we're asking for, as I only think that's fair.

I want to be clear though; nothing is expected from anyone. If you are in a position to give and support our family, it is greatly appreciated, even if it's only your thoughts and prayers or just sharing this page with others. My family and I are incredibly thankful for you even taking the time to visit this page, as even that shows that you care.

My mom's estimated expenses for the next month(s) are as follows:

  • Estimated Funeral / Cremation Costs: $2500
  • Past Due and Upcoming Rent: $1600 past due; $800 upcoming
  • Upcoming Vehicle Payments: $500 - Tom's Truck; $300 - Mom's SUV
  • Food/Living Expenses: $300
  • Total: $6000

We feel ridiculous asking for anything, let alone $6000, but we've realized that this is what it will take to stabilize my mom until we can resolve everything that is outstanding. Our goal is to ensure that my mom can grieve without the rest of life's weight on her shoulders.

As I said, nothing is expected, but something I do request of you is that you hold your family and friends tight, ensure they know you love them, and always cherish the time you have with them, as the time we have is seemingly never enough.

Again, with all sincerity, we thank you. Stay happy and healthy.

Love,
Shaun and Katie
