Our Good Friend, Karen

Hello, I'm Robin Grebe, a good friend of Karen Ancas. We met when we were freshmen at Mass. College of Art in 1976 and we have been friends ever since. As you probably know, Karen was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma brain cancer in July. She started on her daily radiation and chemo treatments on September 11 and has several more weeks to go in this intensive part of the treatment. I wanted to start this fundraiser to help Karen pay for her co-pays and deductibles, (and possibly a wig) because we all know how those expenses can add up. In addition, because she has not been able to work for a couple of months post diagnosis and was not able to collect unemployment insurance, (because she had been diagnosed with brain cancer! Go figure!), I know she is a bit behind the 8 ball.

Karen has been an inspiration for me throughout the years. What always impressed me is how she would get an idea of how to help someone or an organization and then would implement it in her very organized way. For example, she organized fundraisers for the Boys and Girls Club of Lowell, the dance party fundraiser for UTEC in Lowell, Live for Liv, and cooking dinners for cancer patients, as part of the Caring committee at First Parish Church in Groton, to name a few.

I know as her friends, we all want a way to help Karen through this challenge and this seems like it would be an easy and very appreciated way that we could all make this upcoming part of her journey a little bit less stressful.
