Our good friend, a 35 year old otherwise healthy male, caught pneumonia during Covid and has had it for over two months now. He developed a rare fungal pneumonia, and both lungs collapsed. He has been in ICU and the hospital for the past 3 weeks, with a few more weeks of intensive care ahead, and a long road to recovery.  He has struggled to breathe on his own and has had chest tubes to help inflate his lungs and keep his oxygen flowing. Next up is surgery to implant a valve in order to stop the air leakage.

He doesn't qualify for Medicaid, and his insurance from retail only covers so much. His hospital bills are over $75K already, post-insurance, and the rising health care costs threaten to break him.
