Hi, this is Benny Harwell and as some of you may know our friend Ken Carlton is in a bit of a bind. For those of you that don’t, I’ll let you know what Ken has told me. For the last 15 years, he has been the caretaker of his wife, Linda. After he retired, they bought property and moved up in the hills close to Yosemite National park. As Linda’s health continued to decline, they sold that property as Ken wanted to have her closer to healthcare if she needed it in emergency. Also, many of you may know that Linda has been suffering a cognitive decline over the last 10+ years. Ken has been there through all of this and taken care of Linda on his own. Three or four months ago and early in the morning they had a fire at their house. Ken took Linda out of the house and went back inside to try to put it out. Ken was burned and injured and they lost the house completely with all of their belongings ken told me that when this happened the first responders were asking him questions and he was obviously distraught about everything that happened, they took him to the hospital and while he was in the hospital recovering Linda’s son came and talked Linda into emptying their bank account and removing Ken’s safe that had his gold and silver, Rolex, and some cash that he kept on hand. Linda’s son told the authorities that Ken tried to burn the house down on purpose. According to Ken that statement, in addition to some of the disconnected things he was saying to first responders lead the authorities to arrest him and charge him with arson. Ken is now in the Madera county jail and is not doing well at all. He has a public defender, as he has no access to any of his finances. He is down to 120 pounds and is feeling hopeless. Lindas’s son for years has been a drain on Ken and Linda’s finances, and now he’s taking full advantage of Ken’s misfortune. Ken is in dire need of our help right now. He has lost everything and needs proper legal representation, and to be released on bail.
