I’m Fundraising for Our Friend, Alaska Airlines Family Member Joseph Castillo.

On Sunday April 3, 2022 Joe and his son Max went out

shooting hoops, and doing Daddy and Son things.

When they arrived home Andrea, Joe’s wife, Max’s

mom appeared to be still sleeping after suffering another

debilitating migraine headache which she had suffered with for a long time.

When Joe decided to wake Andrea to see if there

was anything she needed, Andrea was unresponsive, but still

breathing. After calling 911 Andrea was rushed to the

emergency room in Vancouver Washington.

Andrea had suffered massive bleeding in her brain and

required immediate surgery with only a 10% chance of survival.

After 3 1/2 weeks in critical care unit, 2 brain surgeries, and a stroke, Andrea was transferred to a specialized care hospital in Portland to stabilize her.

On June 1st Andrea was referred and transferred to

Englewood, Colorado receiving specialized care and

rehabilitation. She awaits a cranioplasty operation in the

future. Andreas neurological condition inhibits her from

speaking, and is unknown if she will ever be able to move

around safely, regain arm and leg strength, problem solve or

even be able to swallow safely in the future.

Joseph has been at Andrea’s side every step of this

heartbreaking journey, not able to return to work.

During this time due to financial hardship Joe has had to move out of their home putting all their belongings into storage.

Andrea is expected to need continuous care with a unknown

future for her recovery.
