Our Friend Cathy Combs Needs Help!

Sadly, Cathy lost her fight over the night of New Years Eve. There is still a mountain to climb for loved ones left behind. Her memorial expenses and the expenses that may or may not be covered by the medicaid coverage we are currently fighting for. Unwavering nurturer, boundless giver of support and love, vicious fighter and our dear friend, Cathy (Kitty) Combs, needs our help right now.
Two weeks ago today, Cathy had a stroke. She suffered cardiac arrest, a pulmonary embolism and is now partially paralyzed. Her liver was also severely compromised. Cathy finds herself in the fight of her life. Cathy is currently stable, in the careful hands of the staff at the Intensive Care Unit at New York Methodist Hospital. Anyone who has ever met Cathy is aware of her limitless tenacity and willpower. She does not give up, and neither can we. Cathy needs our help in this time, and there are some things you can absolutely do to help.
Most importantly, there is the very real financial struggle that Cathy, Dennis, Mike and the family faces at home and into the future. This is a long road yet to go. Cathy is paralyzed on her left side, and requires extensive therapy. Medicaid will only take Cathy’s care so far and for so long. There is so much more that can be done! This gofundme campaign will not only allow for for the alleviation of some serious financial stress in the household, but also allow for the very real possibility to explore alternative treatments as well as the cost of much needed physical and cognitive therapies. In order for Cathy to safely occupy the space later down the road, the family’s home is in need of not only major repairs, but also some serious retrofitting to make it easily accessible. There is also the added question of her need for continued durable medical hardware, which may or may not be fully covered.
In the meantime, the fine folks at The Breukelen (Formerly Breukelen Brasserie,710 Nostrand Avenue, at Prospect Place) have kindly offered the use of their location for us to have a fundraising event on Friday the 30th! They will be donating a portion of the proceeds to Cathy’s fundraising effort, and there will also be bowls/pitchers passed around for donations at the event. Anyone who wishes to donate electronically may do so as well! Updates to follow.
The wonderful amount of love and support she has already received in just this short amount of time has already made a huge difference in her recovery, so do not stop! It’s working, people.
