STORY
Low Frequency is a narrative short film currently in pre-production that is inspired by a significant time of mourning in my life, leading to being haunted by a past that left me stuck in the present.
But don't be disillusioned by the word, HAUNTED. This isn't a horror genre, it's a tale of mental illness recalling traumatic events that seem frightening to face. Its a story about a young woman living in inescapable grief and denial, until she encounters a curious kid who nudges her to face her fears. Recovering from loss can be difficult so I wrote a story about it.
Kortnee Brielle (writer/director) and Lashay (actress) watching the moniter.
ABOUT ME
Kortnee Brielle (writer/director/star) grew up on the historical south-side of Chicago. She was raised in her Grandmothers home, with a single mom, brother and Uncle. As a child, she spent her free time recreating scenes from movies, and writing stories about cereal box characters, and reading those stories to her class.
Eventually that little girl became of age, and chose to dedicate her life to storytelling. Over the years acquiring and collaborating with friends and family who love creating new worlds as much as she does. In 2016, her brother passed away suddenly and a string of traumatic deaths followed that would inspire her to tell stories of loss and mental illness. This is her first short film where she writes, directs and stars.
Minimum Budget 3,000
We've already got some great footage! However we need YOU to get to the finish line. With your help, we'll be able to rent a Komodo Red Camera to match our original footage, lens, lights, C-Stands, Food/ Snacks, and Post-Production. We'll be able to fund a significant piece of the film which is production and post-production audio, editor and colorist to make the film look as quality as it feels. And of course help pay those crew who have to be supported for their integral role on the film!

All funds will go towards the film whether we reach our goal or not. Everything helps when you are a freelance artist.
The Impact
The thing about grief, is that it's different for everybody. You can't cure mourning. You can't take a pill for it to go away. Most people spends years, decades, avoiding the feeling they get when they think about someone they loved or encountered that is no longer here to share life with them. But you have to go through it, just open the door. I want to encourage those people with this story, even if that's you.
Risks & Challenges
A big challenge as an African American female artist is that often times people look over our stories. Some may not find them relatable, yet we are all humans. When you tell good stories, you will feel the impact, no matter the color. We want to have a high quality production that reaffirms the crisis of mental illness in African American communities. However, this story is for anyone who has dealt with loss. We are motivated to spread the word, and share this story with as many people who will listen.
