Help Our Father Recover after Severe Stroke & Heart Failure

Dear Family, Friends, and Kind Strangers,

We are reaching out with heavy hearts and an urgent need. Our father (and father-in-law), Osman Tovilla Ramirez recently suffered a severe stroke in both thalamus, a critical part of the brain responsible for movement, sensation, and cognitive function. Leaving him unable to open his eyes, walk, speak clearly, eat, or perform daily activities on his own. He has been fighting bravely in the hospital since February, the majority spent in the ICU intubated, having stomach bleeds, and needing blood transfusions.

Despite his determination, he cannot recover on his own. Doctors have told us that his best chance at regaining independence is intensive acute rehabilitation. This specialized care will provide him with the intensive therapy tailored to his specific neurological and physical challenges that he desperately needs, including:

Queridos familia, amigos, y almas bondadosas,

Nos dirigimos a ustedes con el corazón en la mano y una necesidad urgente. Nuestro padre (y suegro), Osman Tovilla Ramírez, sufrió recientemente un derrame cerebral severo en ambos tálamos, una parte crítica del cerebro responsable del movimiento, la sensibilidad y la función cognitiva. Esto lo ha dejado incapaz de abrir los ojos, caminar, hablar con claridad, comer o realizar actividades diarias por sí mismo. Ha estado luchando valientemente en el hospital desde febrero, la mayor parte del tiempo en Cuidados Intensivos, intubado, con hemorragias estomacales y necesitando transfusiones de sangre. 

A pesar de su determinación, no puede recuperarse por sí solo. Los médicos nos han dicho que su mejor oportunidad para recuperar su independencia es una rehabilitación aguda intensiva. Este cuidado especializado le brindará la terapia intensiva adaptada a sus desafíos neurológicos y físicos específicos que tanto necesita, incluyendo: 

• Terapia física para recuperar movimiento y fuerza 
• Terapia del habla para ayudarlo a comunicarse y volver a tragar, de modo que pueda alimentarse por sí mismo
• Terapia ocupacional para reaprender tareas básicas de cuidado personal y habilidades para la vida diaria Su camino hacia la recuperación es largo y desafiante. 

Lamentablemente, la rehabilitación aguda es costosa y nuestra familia enfrenta dificultades económicas que hacen difícil cubrir el nivel de atención que necesita.
