Our Next Farming Adventure

We are Adam and Nica, with kids Erik and Kaes - small organic (non-certified) farmers serving customers in and around Hamilton and Norfolk County, Ontario. Hopefully, we've met! We are passionate about growing in sustainable and environmentally friendly ways, to feed people healthy local food. We focus on quality and diversity in what we grow, and love to share our practices and experiences with others.
We started this fundraiser in 2019 to help us confidently move forward with buying our own land in order to expand our business. In the fall, we made our property purchase and are now setting up our new operations on our own land. We are continuing to fundraise, in order to thrive in 2020, especially through the early part of the season. As we set up infrastructure to make our new farming venture possible, more than 50% of our expenses this year will occur by the end of April, when we make less than 10% of our income.
You donations will go towards our biggest outstanding expenses for this year, including:
- completing setup of our heated seedling greenhouse ($3k)
- vendor fees for our farmers markets for the year ($2600)
- setting up a wash station, including sinks, tables and a shade structure (approx $3k)
- irrigation system (approx $3k)
- multi-year field infrastructure, including trellis, row cover and landscape fabric (approx $2500)
- completing setup of 3 hoophouses (approx $6k)
We have been so lucky to have great customer support, at our weekly Ottawa Street Farmers Market and through our CSA, as well as numerous specialty sales. We truly believe that meeting the people who grow your food is important, and that local sustainable businesses are the future for a positive economy. We have also been lucky to have had access to rented land (through our mentors and landlords, Simpler Thyme Organic Farm) so that we could start our business while still living at our home in Hamilton. The continued support of our customers, family and friends will allow us to grow and thrive in this next stage of our farming adventure.
Our goal is large, as it is ongoing, but we come to you with open hands, asking for any contribution that you can make. Growing our business and starting off strong in 2020 will enable us to supply you with fresh, local, organic food. It will also be a contribution to a community, a space where we can host events and feed people's bellies and souls.
