Our Family's Struggle: Seeking a Safe Haven

Dear Friends and Kind Strangers,

We are reaching out in hope and vulnerability, seeking support during a challenging time for our family. Since moving to our rental home in Port St. Lucie, FL, in 2019, we have cherished our little sanctuary. However, since June 2023, we have faced ongoing septic issues that have turned our home into a nightmare.

Despite countless maintenance requests, the temporary fixes provided by contractors have resulted in worsening conditions. Our guest bathroom now fills with septic water, and the smell permeates our home, creating an unhealthy environment for our family. With two young children—a beautiful 3-year-old girl, born prematurely at 23 weeks, and our spirited soon-to-be 10-year-old son—we are deeply concerned about their health and safety.

We’ve reached out to our rental company multiple times, but the situation remains unresolved. They have offered us the option to move, yet the current cost of living makes it nearly impossible for us to afford a new place without an additional $250 to $500 in rent. We have no family nearby who can accommodate us, and our three beloved pets further complicate our search for a safe haven.

Recently, we discovered that our rental company has yet to connect with the city to address the issues. Even when they do we continue facing an uncertain wait with potential water stoppages and in-home septic flooding, which would be particularly challenging for our family. After much searching, we found a potential new home about 30 minutes away that could be a perfect fit for us, but we need financial assistance to make this move happen.
