Our Family's Fight: Helping My Mom Through Cancer and Healing

Our world was turned upside down again after destiny's experience with being hit by a car, now my mom has a problem What started as what we thought was severe discomfort—being unable to eat and going nearly a week without being able to use the bathroom normally—escalated into a nightmare. We will never forget the sight of my mom crying her eyes out in pain, a pain so severe we rushed her to the emergency room.

The doctors initially thought it was just a bad case of gas. But during what was supposed to be a simple procedure, they discovered the terrifying truth: a large mass was eating away at her lower intestines. They immediately had to change course, implanting a stent and later removing what was diagnosed as a cancerous tumor.

The aftermath of this battle has left my mom with a permanent colostomy bag. This is a daily and difficult reality for her. She has to change the bag every single day, a task made nearly impossible because of a previous stroke she had when my sister was born, which left her hands constantly clenched. Watching her struggle with this simple yet vital task is heartbreaking.

A Mountain of Challenges:

· Financial Strain: We are not a wealthy family, and the cost of colostomy bags and other essential medical supplies is a constant, heavy burden. These are not one-time purchases; they are for life.

· Systemic Hardship: Despite her cancer diagnosis and the physical proof of her disability, her applications for SSA disability have been repeatedly rejected. We have submitted stacks of medical records, but we keep hitting a wall, leaving us without the vital support she so clearly deserves.

· Emotional & Mental Toll: This has shattered my mom's spirit. The vibrant woman she once was has been replaced by someone who is always emotional, struggling mentally, and feeling like she's "going crazy" from the pain and the drastic change in her life. She hasn't been the same since her diagnosis.

· Our Family's Foundation: My grandma has been my mom's rock, but the strain is wearing on her, too. Our family has already been through so much—family divisions, the passing of my great grandma (my mom's favorite), and a series of one hardship after another. We are the small unit that has stuck together, but we are struggling to stay afloat.
